Where Are the Grandparents?

Nowadays grandparents are often far away. Our mobile society has made us a nation of visitors. We fly in and out and schedule visits for weekends during which we must squeeze in visits to other family members or friends. In seeking our own fulfillment we have taken away or severely limited one of the joys of childhood: seeing Grandpa and Grandma on a regular basis.

I realized how much children were missing their grandparents when, as I worked in the school system and read these stories to K-5, most children were sad because they did not see their grandparents as often as they needed.

These stories featuring Mike and Grandpa [Heroes Need Practice, Too! is the first in the series] feature a warm, loving, ongoing, and frequent relationship between a grandson and a grandpa.

It is my hope that these stories will allow children to vicariously enjoy that relationship. This hope is not in vain. It is based on the huge percentage of boys and girls who, each time they saw me in their school, asked ”Will you be coming to read about Mike and Grandpa today?”

Even as these children moved into middle school and saw me, they would ask about the characters. The children really enjoyed the relationship. Other stories will be coming out later. Read the section ”Our Story” for more information on bringing these stories to our children and how you can be a great help in this grassroots effort.
